Excerpt:

Through all the mess, I managed to have a peaceful dream. I dreamed I was an incandescent purple butterfly floating
lightly through the summer air. I reveled in

the warm night and the soft breeze that

encompassed me. Looking up, I took in the

sight of a gibbon’s moon waning in the inky

night amongst twinkling stars.

Gentle as the breeze itself, I landed on a

blade of grass. I was surrounded by an

entire field of swaying grass, and I sank

down to the soft earth. Time seemed to stand

still as I took in the warm peaceful night.

That was when I woke up, and I mean I

really woke up. I was lying in a meadow, the

cool earth beneath me. My blue eyes snapped

open in panic. I soon realized that the moon,

the breeze, and the grass were no figment of

my imagination.

Naked and panicked, my mind raced as

all the thoughts course through it at once.

Where was I? How was I going to get back to

the motel? Exposed, I tried to steady my

breathing for fear of a panic attack. I stood

up, looking around under the cover of

darkness. My heart raced and then skipped a

beat as I saw the motel just off to the left

of my field of vision.

Cora and her friends encounter one problem after another on their search for the truth. Questions about their genetically altered states and the mass bombings that plague the country, lead them to the place they least expect, and a threat they didn’t anticipate.

As the search for answers grow more complicated, they must learn to trust new allies as well as each other. If only Cora could just dissolve away from this mess, but she’s determined not to leave anyone behind.

With shocking twists, steamy romances, and heart-pounding action, find out what happens when danger is just a step ahead and their fate waits in the shadows.

Excerpt:

True panic didn’t set in until I heard screams and gunshots. The loud pops shattered my hold on reality. The only thing I could feel was my need to get away from the awful scene. My body was going to unravel, right here, right now, in front of the agents. This had disaster written all over it, but I couldn’t stop it. It was like a safety mechanism built inside me—run, escape, hide, get away, or flee. I was consumed by these thoughts as they ran on repeat in my fragile mind.

It started at my feet, one foot, and then the other. The shoes I had on, emptied, the transition moving up my legs in a slow tingling feeling. My eyes had involuntarily closed, waiting for the peace of freedom dissolving would bring. This transition was slower than most. I couldn’t concentrate with my mind so busy.

Writer Wednesday with Andrea Heltsley

Please welcome Andrea Heltsley to my blog today. Andrea's newest release is Devour. Check out the cover:
Devour
Devour, by Andrea Heltsley
Looks interesting! Here's the description:

He wasn’t supposed to remember.

Callie is a royal vampire. She hunts by taking the blood from her victims and erases their memories afterwards. She goes undetected until a victim named Chase approaches her with all his memories intact. He is intrigued and attracted. She is terrified. What happens when a human mixes with the immortal world? Chaos.

Callie’s 18th birthday has passed and she is coming out at the annual blood ball. Will she find a mate or will she suffer the repercussions of her indiscretion? She is brought to the Vampire council and they must decide what to do with Chase. Do they kill him, or turn him to protect their secret?

A book that mixes vampires with royalty?! Sounds intriguing. Here's the excerpt:

Present day

I sit in the bed cross-legged and gently bang my head against the bars behind me. The sheets are stiff and scratchy. The pillow is flat and the room is sparse. The only amenities accessible are a bed and a small, basic bathroom. Fortunately, I don’t have to pee in public. That’s something, at least.

My hair feels stringier than usual and the desire to wash my face with something other than plain soap is strong. It’s hard to believe how much I actually miss the normal creature comforts I’m so accustomed to. I don’t think I’ll ever take them for granted again, if I live that is.

Things have gotten desperate. I never thought something like this could ever happen, let alone to me.
Due to the bizarre set of circumstances, I’m being held for possible treason. The thought that anyone would ever purposely betray our kind is unthinkable and makes me shudder.

Then there’s the fact that this is dragging two royal families’ reputations through the mud. That means I have practically ruined four council members in the process. I can’t help but be ashamed of myself. It’s not really my fault, but that doesn’t change the situation.

Being royalty brings with it so many expectations to uphold, but being a teenage vampire is what really sucks. Ha, ha sucks. Anyways, I digress. I close my eyes and let my mind take me back to a time when things were simple, before him.

Andrea Heltsley is a biologist turned writer.  Andrea writes YA/NA paranormal romance books mainly.  Andrea is the author of Devour and has several more books scheduled to come out later in 2013. Andrea also maintains a book blog, and has a strong addiction to caffeine and fruit snacks. You can find Andrea in Tennessee with my husband and two Italian greyhounds.

If you ask anyone, they'll say Andrea is a total fangirl! She loves the entertainment industry and watched Revenge and the Vampire Diaries on television. Her favorite movies are Elektra and P.S. I Love You, and also has a weakness for Tim Burton movies too. Andrea is beyond a huge fangirl for Shakira, both her English and Spanish music; Jack’s Mannequin comes in a close second. She has too many favorite authors to list, but Kelley Armstrong and Rachel Vincent are two of them, and Andrea has read all their books J
